MRSA Outbreak in Neonatal Unit

Room fogging

Following an outbreak of MRSA at a major Irish maternity hospital, the Special Care Baby Unit was isolated for high level decontamination with hydrogen peroxide. The rooms had high efficiency HVAC systems to provide clean air to the fragile newborns and this was turned off for the duration of the decontamination process.

The images above show the fogging in progress which included the bio-decontamination of a number of baby incubators.
