Microbiological Efficacy

Spaulding Classification

Hydrogen Peroxide is now globally accepted as an efficient bio-decontamination agent due to its broad spectrum efficacy and its ability to rapidly inactivate the most resilient micro-organisms.

The Spaulding Classification is a useful guide that categorises groups of organisms by their resistance to deactivation.

The Classification states that the most resistant organisms are bacterial endospores (eg C-Diff) for which there is published data of a 6-log kill using ionised hydrogen peroxide technology.

So in simple terms, if the process can kill C-Diff then it will have no problem killing all the “lesser” organisms in the classification.

Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae

CRE and CPE (Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae), are a family of gram negative bacteria that are difficult to treat because of high levels of resistance to commonly used antibiotics. Klebsiella species and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are examples of Enterobacteriaceae that can become carbapenem-resistant. The Sentinel Halo has been independently proven to achieve complete decontamination of a CRE species.

Klebsiella Pneumoniae Carbapenemase

Or KPC for short, is an enzyme that breaks down carbapenems antibiotics and renders the antibiotics ineffective. It is becoming a major cause of concern in the healthcare sector today. A single cycle with the Sentinel Halo has been independently proven to achieve full kill of a 5-log population of KPC and this paper can be requested below. We always perform a double cycle, thereby achieving a theoretical 10-log reduction!

Clostridium
Difficile

Also known as C.difficile or C. diff is a gram-positive spore forming bacterium and is one of the most common global healthcare acquired infections (HCAI). The spectrum of C.diff can range from mild diarrhoea to potentially fatal colitis. The Sentinel Halo has been independently proven to achieve a 6-log kill of C. Diff.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

MRSA is an infection caused by a strain of staphylococcus bacteria that have become resistant to the antibiotics such as the penicillins and cephalosporins which are ordinarily used to treat staph infections. Although other bugs have taken greater prominence in recent years, MRSA remains a concern where patients have open wounds with invasive devices and weakened immune systems increaseing the risk of nosocomial infection. The Sentinel Halo has been independently proven to achieve greater that a 4-log kill of MRSA.

H1N1 Flu Virus
(Swine Flu)

More to follow……… The Sentinel Halo has been independently proven to achieve greater than a 5-log kill of H1N1.

Ebola
Virus

The outbreak of Ebola in West Africa is is the deadliest occurrence of the disease since its discovery in 1976. Our Sanosil SO10 hydrogen peroxide disinfectant, has been approved by the US EPA and meets the criteria of the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) for use against the virus.
